TikTok’s RoC Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules Review

As I was scrolling through TikTok last week, I saw the RoC RETINOL CORREXION Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules is going viral, and people were raving about this innovative serum in their videos, alongside throwing all sorts of claims out there.

And as someone who’s used a number of RoC products previously and is quite familiar with the brand, I decided to give my review on these retinol capsules.

Ingredients

Starting with the most important part, the ingredients, the capsules contain a blend of antioxidants, barrier-repairing ceramides, and nourishing emollients.

The main active ingredient is retinol, which helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, followed by nourishing ceramides, and Dimethylmethoxy Chromanol, a synthetic molecule that has a similar structure to α-Tocopherol (vitamin E) and works as a super potent antioxidant.

A short and straight-to-the-point ingredient list is always a good sign when looking at a new skincare product, and the RoC Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules ingredient list is definitely a green flag.

However, as someone with oily and acne-prone skin, I didn’t really care for the glycine soybean oil, as this can be a problem for someone who tends to react to oils.

Glycine soybean oil can be useful in targeting hyperpigmentation due to its high content of polyphenols known as isoflavones, particularly daidzein and genistein, which have been shown to help protect skin from UV light-triggered damage.

However, glycine soybean oil also has a high content of fatty acids, including palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic, which can sometimes be an issue for those with excessively oily and acne-prone skin.

Now, not every acne-prone skin will have an issue with oils; however, in my experience as an esthetician, oils are something I recommend you to be wary of, especially if your skin is prone to clogging and breakouts.

Scent

The RoC RETINOL CORREXION Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules are free of fragrance, and the serum doesn’t have a scent.

Consistency

The RoC RETINOL CORREXION Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules have a gooey consistency that almost reminds me of the COSRX Snail Mucin Essence.

It’s lightweight in terms of application; however, it does leave an oily layer on the skin’s surface, which might not be the favorite thing for those with oily skin.

How to Use RoC RETINOL CORREXION Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules?

The RoC Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules are relatively easy to use. All you need to do is break the tip of the capsule, squeeze the content in your hands, and gently pat the consistency into your skin.

The capsules are best used on clean and dry skin as a part of your evening routine and followed up with a moisturizer 20-30 minutes after applying them to ensure that the product is fully set and won’t be moved around by the moisturizer.

However, if you find this method to be irritating in the beginning, you can always try applying the serum 10-20 minutes after applying your moisturizer, as this will create a barrier between the potent active and your skin and calm irritation.

The goal is to eventually be able to use them on clean and dry skin and before a moisturizer; however, not all skin reacts the same to retinol, and sometimes putting a barrier in between can help relieve the initial irritation and give the skin good support while it’s getting used to the active ingredient.

Additionally, start by using this retinol serum every 48-72 hours, as this will prevent initial irritation while your skin gets used to the active.

Who Are RoC RETINOL CORREXION Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules Best For?

Judging by the ingredient list as well as the consistency of the product, I would recommend the RoC Line Smoothing Night Serum Capsules for those with mature, dry, and sensitive skin that want to introduce retinol in the skincare routine or are looking for a new product to try.

The serum capsules are free of drying alcohol and irritating fragrance, and due to the addition of barrier-repairing ceramides, nourishing emollients, and antioxidants, they can help counter-effect the drying and irritating nature of retinol.

On the other hand, while the capsules can help nourish the skin while delivering a potent retinol dose, I would not recommend them to those with excessively oily and especially acne-prone skin due to glycine soybean oil, which, as I already mentioned previously, is rich in palmitic, stearic, oleic, and linoleic acid, and can sometimes cause clogging and breakouts.

Again, this isn’t set in stone, and while some acne-prone skin can have issues with this particular ingredient, it doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone will break out from the capsules. It’s just something to watch out for if you decide to try them.
